Good, Caring Teachers are a Constant Joy This spring, I have had the privilege to observe "Miss Amy" and "Miss Cheryl," teachers of the full-day kindergarten at Good Day Preschool and Kindergarten in Milltown. Because of my daughter's work schedule, I sometimes pick up my granddaughter after kindergarten. While Cheryl miraculously gets 16 youngsters organized to come home, Amy bounces out the door to tell waiting parents what the children learned that day, to preview the next day, and to describe the homework. I'm always impressed with the obvious level of planning that goes into each day's activities; and Amy exudes enthusiasm for teaching and love for the children even though she must be exhausted after working all day with 5 and 6-year-olds! Throughout the year, these two teachers have developed a special bond with each child. I've watched Amy meet my granddaughter's individual needs, from giving her a special hairdo, to assuaging her disappointment that her mother wasn't present for a school activity, to searching after school with her for a charm that had fallen off the child's necklace. Amy has been in close contact with my daughter to provide whatever my granddaughter needed to make her school year a happy and productive one. I Both teachers extend this level of special attention to each child; and the youngsters love these two extraordinary women. How fortunate children are as they begin their lifetime
journeys of learning to have excellent teachers like Amy Bitalla and Cheryl
